Our yarn is pure merino lambswool, spun by Z. Hinchliffe in Denby Dale. They've been spinning for over 250 years and supply some of the best-known luxury labels in the world. It's the same yarn we've used for almost a decade.

Knitted in Hawick, the home of knitwear

At one time, half of Hawick worked in knitwear. It's where Pringle and Lyle & Scott were made. Neither is made there now. We still are.

Our mill also knits for designer labels that sell near-identical jumpers for a great deal more. That's why we don't name it.

The secret is in the water

The secret is in the water

Hawick knitwear is famous for its finish: the detergents, the wash time and the cycle, but above all the soft Scottish water. That's what gives the knit its softness, makes it resist pilling, and keeps a navy looking navy for years.

"I've had my navy crew neck for nearly 20 years. I've worn it at least a thousand times. It has never pilled and never lost its shape. I've darned the elbows, but only after eight or nine hundred wears, and I do lean on my desk a lot."

Patrick Grant, founder

Same yarn. Same mill. Same details.

Three styles for men and two for women, all knitted side by side in Hawick. No skimping on the women's.

Men's crew necks are cut relaxed. Women's crew necks are a regular fit. Light enough for most of the year: wear a shirt underneath, or put a jacket on top when it turns cold.

Colours that stay true

Colours that stay true

We always keep the classics: navy, grey, charcoal, black, burgundy and bottle green. The colours that have been part of a man's wardrobe for a century. Women's gets new colours most seasons. Right now the best sellers are Truffle, a soft natural brown, and Thistle, the pale purple of a thistle head.

And navy? The mill told us 70% of the men's jumpers they knit are navy. Patrick isn't surprised.

Questions

Hawick-finished lambswool is very resistant to pilling. Patrick's has gone 20 years without it.

Machine wash on a wool setting or hand wash in warm water. Dry flat, and don't tumble dry. Wash it as rarely as is practical. It'll last longer.

The yarn is spun in Denby Dale, Yorkshire. The jumpers are knitted, hand-linked and finished in Hawick, Scotland.

Men's crew necks are relaxed and women's crew necks are regular. See the fit table above.
